Testosterone Replacement Therapy

Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) is a medical intervention designed to address low testosterone levels in individuals. Testosterone is a crucial hormone responsible for various bodily functions, including the development of male reproductive tissues, maintaining muscle mass, bone density, and regulating energy levels. As men age, they may experience a natural decline in testosterone production, leading to symptoms such as fatigue, reduced libido, mood swings, and muscle loss. Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) involves the administration of exogenous testosterone, often through injections, gels, patches, or pellets, to restore hormonal balance and alleviate associated symptoms. The therapy is carefully prescribed depending on your lab results and monitored to ensure effectiveness and minimize potential side effects. It is essential for individuals considering TRT to undergo thorough assessments and consultations with medical providers to determine if the treatment is appropriate for their specific health needs.

Understanding Low Testosterone

Low testosterone or “low T” (andropause – male menopause) is the gradual decline of male hormones as we age. Most men have a natural decline of testosterone by 1-2% every year after the age of 30.  It is estimated that more than 40 million men in the U.S. have low testosterone, but are unaware of their condition. It is very treatable but often is underdiagnosed condition which can affect a males quality of life such as relationships, work performance, mental focus, sexual health, family and hobbies. Low testosterone is attributed to cardiovascular diseases, metabolic diseases, insulin resistance, obesity, and muscle wasting.  Low testosterone is also implicated in anxiety disorder, depression, and apathy.
Low T is when levels fall below the ranges that are recommended. Levels can range from around 1000 to the low end of less than 350. Range recommendations are between 700 to 900. Once a client is identified as a candidate for replacement a supervised treatment plan will be developed.

What Happens Next?

At the initial consultation, full lab panel will be reviewed and explained. If you are a candidate for testosterone replacement, a treatment plan will be discussed. Folllow up will be in 3 months with lab work to evaluate how the treatment is working. At this time if adjustments need to be made your provider will discuss with you. Any side effects that require treatment will also be discussed and addressed.
Treatments consist of taking a subQ injection twice a week along with recommended supplements. Injections are the most effective treatment, these are self-administered at home. Other treatments may be recommended at this time depending on exam and lab work.

What is TRT?

TRT stands for Testosterone Replacement Therapy, a medical treatment used for men with clinically low testosterone levels and related symptoms.

Symptoms may include fatigue, low libido, decreased strength, increased body fat, mood changes, poor recovery, and reduced motivation.
Symptoms plus lab testing can help determine whether TRT may be appropriate. A consultation is the best first step.
Some men notice early improvements in energy, mood, and libido within weeks, while body composition and strength changes may take longer.
Short answer, yes! When medically appropriate and properly monitored, TRT can be an effective treatment option. Regular follow-up and labs are important.
Yes, True North Health & Wellness offers personalized TRT for qualified men in Miami and across Florida.
Symptoms matter along with lab values. “Normal” ranges can be broad, and some men may still need a deeper evaluation of free testosterone, SHBG, thyroid, sleep, stress, and lifestyle factors. We believe in optimizing your hormones and not just looking at “Normal” results
TRT candidacy is based on symptoms, lab testing, medical history, goals, and risks. A professional evaluation is the best first step.
Qualified patients can seek TRT through licensed medical providers. It is always wise to seek a provider that will do a complete assessment and offer a personalized plan. True North Health and Wellness offers hormone optimization in Miami and throughout Florida.
TRT may support lean mass, energy, and training capacity when low testosterone is present, which can indirectly help body composition when combined with nutrition and exercise.
For men with low testosterone, TRT may improve libido, sexual function, confidence, and overall vitality.
When medically appropriate and properly monitored, TRT can be a safe long-term therapy for many patients. Regular labs and follow-up are important.
Common labs may include total testosterone, free testosterone, SHBG, CBC, CMP, PSA, lipids, thyroid markers, and others based on history.
Some men may continue experiencing fatigue, low libido, reduced muscle mass, mood changes, and quality-of-life decline. Prolonged deficient levels can lead to metabolic disfunction which can lead to chronic diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
TRT use can cause a decrease sperm count but does not necessarily cause infertility. Majority of men on TRT are still able to have families with no additional needs but if difficulty conceiving, we can stimulate sperm production with the addition of HCG to the protocol.

Free T3 is the active thyroid hormone used by cells. It can play an important role in energy, metabolism, focus, and overall function.
Thyroid antibodies are markers that may suggest autoimmune thyroid conditions such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis or Graves’ disease.
Sometimes symptoms may persist despite standard lab ranges. Additional evaluation may be needed to assess thyroid conversion, iron status, stress, sleep, nutrition, and other hormones.
Common symptoms include fatigue, weight gain, constipation, dry skin, cold intolerance, hair thinning, brain fog, and depression.
